So eons ago, Neolucky had sent me a Christmas card with an awesome ATC of my Somia character and I wanted to return the favor with drawing one of her characters. I had drawn Kizeh but lost the PSD file so I couldn’t finish it…so I opted to just draw a new image and so here is her Yewon character. I hope she likes it. I used a different style of inking for it.

January I started experimenting with Flash Symbol Animation with Deliliah and Lotus.
February I was finishing up my books so I doodled Angel from Ah Heck!!
March was working on artwork for the Girls Drawin' Girls book.
April was working on Manga Mandy ATC for 5Finity.
May was time that I started trying to do some more polished Zorilita art.
June was working on Ex Libris images for GDG. This one is of Bunny.
July was working on my image for Womanthology.
August was a Munsters commission.
September was coloring older art time and revisiting drawings.
October was time for Scooby Doo.
November was more Marvel AP commissions.
December was time for the Womanthology Christmas special that I did with Zorilita girls.

So I did this for the Womanthology Holiday Special, but this has been edited for online, with the watermark and logo at the bottom. I’ll probably be making it a Christmas Card for next year.

Yes, so Zorilita is decorating the tree with Honey helping along. Rain(bwice) and Somia have discovered the Jereboa has discovered his present a little too early. I really wanted to show a more detailed scene over just doing a pin up because that’s all people usually expect to see from me. They are also in their younger years here as opposed to my pinup from the Graphic Novel.

These are the Guardians of the Galaxy from the old Marvel books. He wanted a puzzle styled set so I did one for him. All cards 2.5 x 3.5 inches, microns, pencils, prisma markers, and sharpie pens.

If you remember Saleen I salute you. I just had a sudden whim to draw an obscure Disney mermaid character since people only ever think of the Little Mermaid movie or cartoon. This is Saleen, from the Aladdin cartoon. She was a nasty siren like character that tried to harass the gang. One episode she even tried an imitation of Ursula's plan from TLM. I don't know why more people don't remember her though.

And now back to the work I was supposed to be doing. ^_^;;

So, originally I had tried to get people to draw some pin ups for my Faux Facts books but only one person really expressed interest and delivered a finished product but having just recently got it. (Completely understand the schedule issues!) It will now be fan art for my site and I’ll try to fit it in a future volume. If you want to draw finished fan art (please not just rough doodles.) from either of my series I will try to fit you guys in a future volume. Just note me.

So here OgawaBurukku has drawn Puck and his evil little familiar. Love the pun on this one. Though if you have read volume three, it might not be as accurate. ;)

Spent the last few days drawing Hanna Barbara like drawings of the Josie and the Pussycats for some ATC by 5*Finity and a Scooby Doo movie was on last night so I just thought I'd draw Velma and Daphne with their style mixed with mine. I'm not sure what they're running from but yeah they do tend to run a bit in that show don't they.

I don't often get to draw guys or are asked to any way, so I think it came out pretty good. The plot of his book has to do with a guy in a coma that finds things are a lot more spooky and crazy than in normal reality.

So I really love Thundercats both series actually. I always love the villains but I don't love drawing guys so much...so I had drawn a chibi ultimate Mumm-ra eons ago, but I lost it and so I thought after seeing Adventure Time doing the main characters in the opposite gender, I'd draw Mumm-Ra the same way. It's a joke, an homage, please don't be offended. I'll draw more "normal" fan art sometime in the future.

This has to be one of the more unique commissions I've ever gotten. No one ever asks me for anything other than the normal cute or fantasy stuff, so this was a fun change of pace. I always watched the Munsters reruns on tv but never drew them. You also never hear about them. It's always the Adams Family that everyone talks about even though they came out at the same time. Ah well. I even got the dragon, Spot, in there.

Wow, well I just got back from San Diego Comic Con late last night and I can say that it was a great convention for me. So here’s a recap of everything or many things that happened.

Day 1
I set out early in morning and traffic was a breeze. I got there in plenty of time and check in to the hotel was seamless, found a parking spot easily and got down to the convention center to unload everything to the palette program. Got everything set up pretty fast. Slightly annoying that our booths aisles were so much more narrow but it ended up not being as bad as I thought. I saw a lot of familiar faces like the Nemu Nemu gang, Rachel Young, Jean Kang, Diana Sprinkle, Mike Vega. Opening night was pretty good. I sold quite a few books the first night.

Day 2
I took the opportunity to see as much as I could early in the morning and this time I took far more photos than I was able to in the previous years, mostly of exhibits and dolls. I managed to get all the way down to the Warner Bros booth only to see they were being over protective of their freebies. Poo… Ah well. I was able to get quite a few things from DC and one being the Fringe book I wanted to get. I also got a mountain of free comics. Awesome! When the show started I was so surprised to find out that I had many repeat customers. The best thing had to be this little one year old boy that bought a doll from me. Not only did he give me a high five, but he gave me a fist bump! It was so adorable. *melt* I was so happy to have sold more books and dolls. Javier Hernandez popped by and made an appearance.

Day 3
Friday was a good day too…had more time to chat with Diana Sprinkle and other table neighbors. I saw the crew from Lampost Comics and the Christian Comics Society. The artist on Revelations came over and introduced himself. Fred Perry came over and bought a Dvorak doll and a sketch book. =) Awesome! I ran into Doug TenNapel and spoke for a bit. Sales were great and people that bought the first issues of either of my books came back for the sequels. Totally cool! I was able to meet with people for potential work leads and had some people actually come up to me and apologize…so strange but in a good way.

Day 4
So Saturday was a strange day for sales…it was normally the fastest day but it was slow because people were actually lining up for tickets for SDCC 2012. Sales weren’t bad but they weren’t great. I still sold well enough though. I got some more free shirts, books and bags. By the last day the mile long hike to the center was easier. Alexandria Neonakis stopped by. We used to chat all the time online and she drew me so much Zori fan art. Tim Beedle popped on by. Kassandra Heller came by and several girls from the Womanthology project came by too.

Day 5
Sales were much better than opening night. I sold more art cards than the previous days. Was glad to talk to all my table neighbors. Convention closed early and we packed up and made the 3 hour trek home. There was a strange amount of traffic near Orange County. Got home, unpacked and went to bed.
All in all it was a great show but I was glad to get home and sleep in my own bed.

I did these a while back. Though I drew the Eggman, I much prefer Robotnik prime. I thought he was far more sinister. I drew some Shadow, and the rest. It's been eons since I drew this guys last and the comic has changed so much from when I used to read it. Enjoy!

Everyone always draws the well known characters so I wanted to draw some of the lesser known Mario gals. Wanda was from the mouse based game Wario and Mario, not released in the USA and Pauline has virtually been swept under the rug in favor of Princess Peach. I, for the record, prefer blonde Pauline but I have drawn her with her current hair color.

Now there are some things I would do completely different with this if it were current, but I thought since I have nothing else to upload and it was cute, I would post it.

So I was told to draw Somia doing something. And while the series is not about random “street fights” or “being a tough girl,” Here is Somia taking down some random pigtailed girl. I've been doodling Angel, more now that I don't have time for the full volume of Ah Heck!! The Angel Chronicles. Either way, not the normal style in the book but having fun drawing while watching No Ordinary Family. Not sure when/if I will finish this. Texture found somewhere here on DA.

Another short animation test with a full body Zori DNA. I'm not happy with the arm on the left side of the screen at the end but I am not sure I'll ever finish this. I am just getting the hang of more complex animations that aren't straight through drawn.

Another test of layers this time with Lotus. Nothing fancy but I wanted to play around with it. I think this was like 25 layers? Either way, it's more intensive than you'd think. Also I found a better codec so it's not so compressed.

Sugar Bits is my first ever black and white/gray scaled art book. I've included super cute art, sexy pinups, fashion ideas, anthropomorphic, light yuri and various other drawings. Life Meter 3

I had the pleasure and privilege of being published in the third Life Meter Comics Anthology. I did a short story about the girls of Mario Bros. There were several other great stories in the book with a wide variety of solid colorful artwork and some fun stories about our favorite video game heroes and foes. The proceeds of this book go to helping get video games for children in hospitals and the like. Check it out!

This week, we talk to GDG's Mary Bellamy (aka "Zorilita"), who will be featured in our upcoming Girls Drawin Girls Volume III: Sugar and Spice, for her interpretation of Cheesecake, in addition to already having a collection of her artwork in GDG's Playing Cards!

Welcome to the Girls Drawin Girls Spotlight, Mary!

1. What's your name?
Mary Bellamy

2. Where are you originally from, and where do you live now?
I've lived in the Los Angeles area my whole life.
3. What do you do for a living when you're not drawing sexy pinups?

I'm illustrating my own children's graphic novels, doing character design and illustrations for clients and

doing comic strips for various anthology books.

4. What's your favorite medium to work in?
My favorite medium would have to be digital work in Photoshop and Flash. Though in traditional media, I love markers and colored pencils.

5. Why do you think the pinup girl has such a timeless, wide appeal?

I think pin up girls are popular since they can show a sensual side of femininity without going past certain limits and so many people do them as a sample of their style that it's become iconic to commercial art.

6. Define what "sexy" means to you.

Sexy to me is less about the graphic images we're fed in magazines and more about a softer gentler side of womanhood. I think that implied things are more attractive and in some cases more innocent than many things that appear in comics or television so I usually obscure certain things in my work.

7. What's your biggest goal/ambition as an artist?

My biggest goal is to have my work appear on television or in mass merchandised form. I'd love to see my girls on tv since my work is less about princesses and more about girls that don't really fall into particular stereotypes. Toys are my other love, so I'd love to have my designs appear in stores. Right now I'm selling directly to conventions and customers.

8. Why do you like drawing ladies?

I like drawing ladies because they're more fun. You can't really do as much with fashion or hair with male characters and curvy lines make for more interesting designs in my opinion.

9. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go?
If I could travel anywhere, I'd love to see Japan and Europe, maybe Ireland or Paris.

10. Name three artists who have influenced you and/or you admire.
I'm not really sure I can name three artists because I’m really influenced by so many things. I love Fauvism, Impressionism, Cubism and Mannerism. As for modern work, I love all sorts of graphical styles and the older Disney animations. I loved the 1980's girl's cartoons and later enjoyed some anime as well.

More Fairy Girl Commissions

Sorry it's been so long since I've last posted here. I've been hard at work on various projects, art shows, book things and freelance gigs with clients. These are a few commissions I did for a repeat customer. The first is his fairy girl, Cascabel who was caught sampling some of Santa's complimentary candies. Looks like she's been caught though. The second is of his fairy cat girl who just loves a good ice cream cone. I make a mock ice cream label and used some grunge textures to make her more like a vintage label.
